The sim's basic frame was built with high-grade 2x4s and I had no ejection seat at the time to build around.

The basic first panel had whatever gauges I could find, plus some improvised EFIS displays I created. Ebay didn't exist at this point and finding aircraft instrument affordably was nearly impossible at that time.

This picture shows the panel, configured for a single engine aircraft, and with the first ejection seat I could afford, from and F-100D fighter.

With the acquisition of HUD thought impossible at the time, the glareshield initially contained a warning light bank. (Noticed I moved the gear handle to the correct side?)

The panel was laid out differently after I acquired an F-18A moving map display bezel. Obviously, this made the panel look rather lopsided, but it was the most impressive piece of real fighter aircraft hardware I had at the time.

Eventually the front panel was modified so many times that no more patches could be made. I acquired a HUD, two MFD displays and then decided to go with a twin engine fighter configuration. This required a completely new front panel and modifications to the glareshield for the HUD. The new panel was hand-nibbled and instrument spacing was significantly tightened to accommodate more instruments, which started to appear on eBay.

More equipment started flowing in which resulted in constant changes to the sim's main panel and consoles. Gauges changed and switched places, controls came and went and the modifications just kept coming.

I eventually ran out of room on the main panel and moved threat displays and AOA to above the glareshield.
