The movable overhead section and forward enclosure surrounding the former 32" monitor have been removed and replaced with an openable canopy. This new canopy, along with the rear extension to the wall, improves esthetics both inside and out and provides a dramatically improved acoustic environment via the sim's new, powerful sound system. There are also exhaust fans on the wall behind the ejection seat that draws warm air out of the simulator and into the adjacent room. This greatly improves the temperature in the room the sim is in when the canopy is closed. Additional air vents were installed to force more air into the cockpit to keep the pilot comfortable in the newly enclosed environment. Soon an electric seat position actuator from a Martin Baker ejection seat will be used to open and close the canopy, but for now it is opened and closed manually. A canopy open switch and emergency jettison handle have also been installed in preparation for electric opening. To avoid being trapped in the sim upon a breaker trip or power outage, an internal battery emergency selection switch has been installed that will enable batteries to power the canopy actuator.

Since the canopy restricts conversations between the pilot and instructor/observers, an Interphone control system (ICS) has been activated. This comprises of audio control panels and headsets with boom microphones. Conversations between the pilot and instructor can be recorded to video via a microphone mixer. The mixer can also add ambient noise from inside and outside the sim as well.
